Damak: Human Rights Organisation of Bhutan (HUROB) said ten inmates in Chemgang jail are on fast to death hunger strike from March 7, 2009.
In a statement issued today, HUROB said the hunger strike is in continuation and support of general secretary of Bhutan Gorkha National Liberation Front (BGNLF) Nanda Lal Katwal who was forcibly withdrawn on March 6, 2009 after 13 days of his fast to death by the administration as his health deteriorated critically.
Katwal had taken the extreme step when his request to the Royal Government of Bhutan (RGOB) turned deaf ears for resolution of the Southern Bhutanese problem and particularly the refugee problem and repatriation.
“HUROB is concerned of their health. It would like to appeal the Bhutan government not to under mind their demands and take care of their health”, reads the statement.
HUROB has requested all the International community, INGOs and human rights organizations to kindly take up the issue of Bhutanese refugee problem and urge the Bhutan government to repatriate them with dignity and honor.
